Check Engine Cooling System Hoses

If the engine has overheated to the extent that the head gasket requires replacement, it is essential to check that none of the hoses in the engine cooling system are punctured. While the head is at the machine shop for resurfacing, protect the cylinders with clean rags to prevent dirt intrusion and inspect the hoses by disconnecting them, paying particular attention to the junctions, areas where clamps are applied, and any points that may rub against something.
