How to Drive a Diesel Opel Astra J When the DPF is Full

When the DPF of your Opel Astra J is full, the vehicle will prompt you with a message on the central display: "particulate filter full, proceed with regeneration". If the vehicle is still running normally, drive on the motorway (or extra-urban) for at least 20 to 30 minutes under these precise conditions: engine at operating temperature; revs between 2,000 and 3,000 RPM; constant speed between 50 and 68 mph; do not turn off the engine until the warning light disappears. If the vehicle is already in protection mode and does not allow regeneration while driving, do not continue driving, as you risk choking the filter, causing even worse issues. Instead, take the vehicle to a workshop where they will perform forced regeneration using diagnostic equipment while the vehicle is stationary. To avoid this problem, especially if you use this diesel in urban settings, make an extra-urban trip every 500 to 800 miles; use only quality diesel; regularly check the oil level, as a rise indicates diesel has entered the sump; if the car operates a lot in the city, consider periodic cleaning of the DPF.
