Starter Motor Disassembly

Before proceeding with the disassembly of the starter motor, disconnect the battery as the motor receives a constant positive supply and everything else is grounded: even a minimal contact between the cables during disassembly can cause sparks and unpleasant short circuits. The starter motor is located near the gearbox and is connected via a flange: once located, disconnect the power cables and unscrew the mounting pins to remove it from its housing. You can test it on the bench by securing it in a vice, connecting the casing to ground, applying the constant positive, and then energising the pinion actuator relay with a positive.
