What does the "Eco" mode mean in a Peugeot vehicle?

In Peugeot vehicles, "Eco" does not indicate a driving mode, but an automatic battery protection feature. When the system detects that the battery is discharging due to prolonged electrical consumption with the engine off, it automatically disables certain functions (radio, interior lights, window lifters, infotainment systems) to prevent the battery from fully discharging. It activates if the car remains stationary for more than 20 minutes with the ignition on and at least one electrical system active: this is a normal behaviour, and there is no need for concern; it prevents the battery from discharging while stationary. If the message appears suddenly with the engine off, the main cause is likely a weak or old battery. It could also be a combination of factors: short trips in the city (the battery does not recharge enough) or it may not hold a charge. In these cases, check the battery; if it is over 4-5 years old, it should be replaced.
