How to Change the Handbrake Cable on the Peugeot 405

See how to change the handbrake cable on a Peugeot 405: this is quite an old vehicle, so the biggest issue is cleaning and lubricating the handbrake lever mechanism. The replacement of the cables (which run from the lever to the rear brakes) is more complex and requires working both inside the cabin and underneath the vehicle. To disconnect the old cable, you need to remove the centre console, then unlock the cable by finding the attachment point of the cable to the lever, which you will need to unlock. Once cleaned, the mechanism becomes smoother. Lift the rear of the vehicle, remove the wheels, find the attachment point of the handbrake cable to the rear brake, and then fit the new cable following the reverse path: first attach the cable to the rear brakes and run the cable under the body to the lever. Adjust the tension so that the rear wheels begin to lock after 3 to 4 clicks of the lever. Check that the rear wheels turn freely when the handbrake is released and that it holds the car on a slope. Verify the functionality of the handbrake warning light.
