Detailed instructions - To clean the EGR valve on a Renault Mégane MK3, with the engine off, pull the handbrake, open the bonnet with the lever, and locate the EGR valve and its intake duct. The valve recirculates unused exhaust gases and gets dirty very quickly, so it needs regular cleaning. Use a thin flat screwdriver to insert it into the hollow space of the connector to remove it. The valve is held by three nuts: one is located behind the valve and is a bit difficult to reach. Use an 8 mm socket to loosen them and finish by hand. The valve may be stuck: wiggle it side to side to free it. Also, remove the intake duct of the EGR valve: to do this, remove the black frame of the engine cover, held by two screws at the base. For cleaning, spray both parts with oven cleaner, let it sit for 20 minutes, and repeat the process. Rinse with fuel after each spray. Use a brush to reach difficult areas. Once cleaned, reassemble: insert the duct into the two seats, screw the black frame back on, reattach the EGR valve ensuring the metal gasket is present, tighten the three nuts (first by hand, then with the spanner), and reconnect the electrical connector.
