Replacement of the Steering Tie Rod End
Model: Renault Clio
Clio 2, MK 2
- Years 1998-2005
To replace the steering tie rod end, lift the vehicle and support it on axle stands. Remove the wheel after locking the steering to ensure the wheels are parallel to the vehicle's longitudinal axis. Unscrew the locking nut that connects the tie rod end to the wheel hub. The tie rod end can then be extracted either with a ball joint separator or, although more laborious, by striking the end of the bolt with a hammer. Measure the distance from the inner end of the tie rod end to the end of the adjustment thread on the tie rod. Mark the position of the tie rod end to be replaced with a marker, which can then be unscrewed and replaced. Screw the new tie rod end in until it reaches the mark and measure again. Adjust the new tie rod end to match the same measurement obtained with the replaced one to maintain proper alignment, and secure it with the locking nut. Before reassembling the parts, it is advisable to grease all threads. You can then reassemble the disassembled parts.
