Guide to Replacing the Cylinder Head

The engine gasket serves to isolate the cylinders from the cooling passages surrounding them and to separate the oil and cooling passages to prevent the two flows from mixing. First, check that the engine block has not been deformed and clean the surface of the head and engine block, as well as the bolt holes that secure the cylinder head cover to the engine block. You can then apply the new gasket to the engine block and replace the cylinder head cover on top of the new gasket, tightening the bolts with a ratchet spanner.
