Replacement of Brake Drum and Shoes

This video shows you how to replace the rear brake drum and shoes. Once the car is raised and the handbrake is disengaged, proceed to unscrew the bolts and remove the rear wheel. Next, unscrew the two centring bolts that hold the drum and lightly tap it with a hammer to loosen it, then try to pull it off with your hands. To remove the shoes, first extract the retainers and then the springs, always taking great care, and finally the handbrake cable; it is advisable to prevent the pistons of the shoes from extending by blocking them with a wire. When reassembling the shoes, remember their original position and reconnect the handbrake cable.

If the central locking system of the Volkswagen Golf 4 is not working, it is likely necessary to reset the system: to do this, open the driver's door and detach the side panel of the dashboard next to the steering wheel. Under this panel, you will find the fuses, including the one for the central locking, which is indicated in the manual as number 14.
