How to open the battery compartment door on Smart? The battery of the Smart is to the right of the passenger side under the carpet. We open the car door and pull up the floor carpet (passenger side). With your fingers release the locking lever of the battery compartment cover panel, then remove it. Once the compartment is opened we will find the battery. We disassemble the locking pins of the battery terminals, then, remove it from the compartment in the floor and replace it with a new one (same voltage). We close the battery compartment at the end of assembly. We turn on and check the operation of the Smart Fortwo.
