How to Replace the Rear Glass Struts on a Smart ForTwo

Model: Smart Smart 450 - Years 1998-2007
Part: Hydraulic pistons

If the rear boot glass does not stay up when opened, it means the gas struts have failed and can no longer support the weight of the glass. Replacing the struts is straightforward, but when purchasing new ones, ensure you check the type of attachment and the length of the strut when compressed. To replace them, remove the locking clips from the ball joints and detach the struts from the mounting pins. Then, insert the new strut, securing the ball joints with their respective clips, and check that the glass holds its position.
