How to Replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor on a Smart

Model: Smart Smart 450 - Years 1998-2007
Part: Crankshaft position sensor

If the engine fails to start, especially when hot, it is likely due to a malfunction of the crankshaft position sensor: if it cannot read the position of the crankshaft, the engine management unit cannot control the injection sequences. This sensor (part number 0 261 210 142) is located at the front of the engine, next to the radiator. To replace it, you must remove the fan and the throttle body, first disconnecting the relevant hoses. Once you locate the sensor, disconnect the connector and unscrew the fixing screw to extract it from its housing.
