Knock Sensor Replacement

The knock sensor is used to identify any abnormal combustion in the combustion chamber (knocking or pinging). Knock sensors enable particularly efficient combustion of the air-fuel mixture: they help adjust the ignition timing to optimal values, preventing knocking. This optimises engine performance and reduces fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. Additionally, knock sensors protect the engine components involved in the combustion process. The knock sensor, installed on the engine block (cylinder head or intake manifold), operates based on a piezoelectric element that detects accelerations on the engine structure at its installation point. The piezoelectric element generates an output voltage based on the acceleration it receives, which is used to identify knocking events. To replace the sensor, simply unscrew the fastening pin and disconnect the connector to attach to the new sensor.
