Removing Steering Wheel for Cruise Control Installation

First, deactivate the airbag by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery. Start by unscrewing the retaining screws of the airbag module, accessible through the holes on the sides of the steering column using an Allen key. Loosen the screws and carefully pull the airbag cover away, releasing the plastic clips. Once the airbag is removed, disconnect the two connectors at the back by releasing the small plastic tabs with a tool. Be careful not to drop the airbag module, keep it away from intense heat sources, do not carry it around, and do not shake or hit it, as it may explode. Carefully loosen the screw on the column and remove the wiring. Now you can remove the steering wheel retaining screw using a 19mm socket. Before removing the nut, mark its position with a permanent marker. Remove the steering wheel by hand, taking care with the airbag cables. Place the steering wheel on a workbench and remove the screws from the lower cover, which will be replaced with the new version. Refit the steering wheel onto the column using a torque wrench to tighten the central nut to a force of 37 lbs (approximately 164 Nm). Use the mark made earlier to correctly centre the position. Install the cruise control switch and secure it with the screws included in the kit, then insert the connector into the designated socket. Carefully refit the airbag. Reconnect the battery and test the new device on the road.
