What to do if the tailgate is stuck on the Toyota RAV4?

If the tailgate is stuck on the Toyota RAV4, proceed to unlock it by following the attached video guide. You will only need a simple flat-head screwdriver.

Fold down the rear seats to easily access the boot area and locate the small rectangular plastic cover at the bottom centre of the tailgate. Insert the tip of the screwdriver into the slot at the top of the cover and gently remove it. At this point, the locking mechanism of the latch and a screw, which acts as a pivot for a plastic tab, will be visible.

Loosen the screw without removing it, allowing you to rotate the tab to the right, releasing the lower lock, which when pushed upwards will free the latch. You can now inspect the mechanism and replace the faulty part.
