In this video we can see what the problem is with cars with the Puretech 1.2 engine, which have a timing belt submerged in oil. In reality, many manufacturers work with this system because they believe that the oil-submerged belt can generate a smoother engine operation, extending the life of the belt itself, but we can see that in many cases this is not the case. We conduct a test with a specific gauge to measure the width of the belt, and we see that the damaged belt has widened and also torn. If we want to do a good job in the replacement, we must also change the water pump, the tensioner, all the gaskets, and of course the engine oil and the filter; in fact, it is very likely that parts of the belt remain trapped in the oil filter mesh, as we can see from the footage, which shows the filter completely clogged with residues that have detached from the belt. It will also be necessary to change the oil pump, which may have "digested" these residues; even the vacuum pump should be checked and replaced.
