How does the water pump on a car work?

In this video, we can see how water pumps are actually nothing more than a pulley connected to a tree, which circulates the coolant liquid. It is a low-cost component, but it has the drawback, especially for vehicles with a belt, of being driven by the timing belt. Therefore, if it breaks, the entire timing belt must be replaced because the belt must be removed to replace the pump. For this reason, it is recommended to always replace the water pump when doing the timing belt, even if it is in good condition. Vehicles with a timing chain, on the other hand, have the water pump connected to a serpentine belt, so it is not necessary to disassemble the car to change this pump.
