Is it necessary to add brake fluid to the reservoir?

During our maintenance inspections, if we notice that the brake fluid tank is a bit low, we don't necessarily have to rush to add more fluid (which we conventionally call "oil", but is actually a mixture of glycols and esters). First, we need to check for any leaks in the system, for example on the tires. Then we need to know that the fluid may have simply moved, and be on the calipers, because the disc or pads are starting to wear out and therefore compensate for the space missing from these components. In fact, brake fluid never gets consumed, and the reasons why the level decreases can only be: a leak in the system or brake wear. In any case, a check is necessary.
