How does the air mixing door actuator work in a car's heating system?

In this interesting animation, we see how the air mixing door actuator works in the heating system of a car: the air entering the cabin is mixed in order to regulate the temperature. The mixing door is normally located near the core of the heater and evaporator, inside the vehicle dashboard. The actuator is an electric motor, connected to a series of different electrical gears, to multiply the torque, fixed to the top of the mixer. These gears are made of plastic, and can break, and in this case, the actuator is not able to move the mixer door, and the temperature of the outgoing air will not change. A malfunction of this type often produces a noise similar to a series of "clicks", easily audible to the vehicle passengers.
