How a dirty wheel speed sensor can trigger the ABS warning light.

In this video, we can see how the speed sensor of a wheel, if dirty, can affect the activation of the ABS warning light on our vehicle. In fact, these sensors (Wheel Speed Sensors) measure the rotation of the wheels through a tone ring. If they are dirty with mud, metallic dust, or grease, the sensors may not read the signal correctly, causing an error in the ABS system; furthermore, any metallic particles could disrupt the magnetic field of the sensor, leading to incorrect readings. If the tone ring is also dirty or damaged, the sensor may send inconsistent data to the ABS control unit, causing the warning light to turn on. So, as we see in the video, we need to clean the sensor and the tone ring with a specific product, such as an electrical contact cleaner. If the warning light remains on, then the sensor may be faulty, and a more thorough check will be necessary.
