Have you ever noticed that on the fuel gauge, next to the petrol station icon, there is an arrow? This arrow is a helpful aid to identify which side the fuel filler flap is on. Depending on the direction the arrow is pointing, you can determine the location of the fuel filler flap for refuelling.
