In this video, we see that the traditional method of simply viewing the side of your car in the mirror creates a blind spot. Instead, let's look at the correct technique. For the left mirror: lean your head until it touches the driver's side window. Adjust the mirror until you can just see the rear side of your car. For the right mirror: lean your head towards the centre of the car, above the centre console: adjust the mirror until you can just see the rear side of your car. For the centre mirror, adjust it to frame the rear window completely. This adjustment creates a 'relay effect'. When a car following you crosses the central area of the rearview mirror, it appears in the side mirror, and when it leaves the side mirror, it is already visible in your peripheral vision, next to you, virtually eliminating the traditional blind spot.
