What is AdBlue, Explained Simply and Clearly

AdBlue is a liquid composed of demineralised water and 32.5% urea. It is not a fuel additive but a catalytic reduction agent used in modern diesel engines to reduce harmful emissions by lowering nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. AdBlue is injected in small quantities into the exhaust gas and, due to high temperatures, it transforms into ammonia which, passing through a special SCR - Selective Catalytic Reduction - catalyst, converts nitrogen oxides (NOx) into nitrogen (N2), a harmless gas that makes up 78% of the air we breathe, and water vapour (H2O). It thus transforms toxic gases into harmless substances. AdBlue has a dedicated tank separate from the diesel tank, and the refill cap is blue. Consumption is between 3% and 6% of diesel consumption. It is important to use a quality product that complies with ISO 22241 standards. When the level is low, the vehicle will start giving increasingly persistent warnings, and when it runs out completely, the car will not restart. To unlock it after refilling, it may require the intervention of a mechanic with diagnostic equipment.

How to Check the Oil Level on a Jeep Renegade?
