Have we ever wondered how AdBlue works chemically? This video explains it in simple terms: nitrogen dioxide is a strong pollutant, produced among other things by internal combustion engines. AdBlue removes it from the exhaust pipes of cars. But what is AdBlue? It is a 30% solution of urea and water, which is constantly sprayed onto a vanadium-based catalyst, through which the exhaust gases of the car pass. Let's see a simulation of how it works, where a quartz tube has been inserted with a catalyst soaked in AdBlue solution, and through which nitrogen oxides have been flowed. At a temperature of 250°C, nitrogen oxides react with urea, forming molecular nitrogen, water, and carbon dioxide, transparent gases that unlike nitrogen oxides do not turn into nitric acid in our lungs.
