How to Know if a Car Fuse is Blown

There are several methods to check car fuses. Let's start with the visual method: some fuses are transparent, and you can see the metal wire inside directly. Good fuse: the metal wire is intact, a single piece connecting the two prongs. Blown fuse: the wire is broken, a piece is missing, or there is a dark/burnt mark inside. However, be careful: as the video states, some fuses are very small or have an opaque plastic casing (not transparent) that does not allow you to see anything. In that case, visual inspection is not enough! The foolproof method is to use a tester in continuity mode: set the tester to the symbol that beeps (usually an icon with a triangle and lines), then touch the two probes (red and black) to the two metal prongs of the fuse. If you hear a BEEP, the fuse is GOOD (current is passing). If you hear nothing, the fuse is blown. If you do not have a multimeter, you can use a standard 12V bulb with two wires: connect one wire to the positive terminal of the battery, and the other wire to one prong of the fuse; take a third wire and connect the other prong of the fuse to the negative terminal of the battery. If the bulb lights up, the fuse is GOOD. If the bulb does not light up, the fuse is BLOWN.
