When should snow chains be used? You need to assess the road conditions, so when you encounter a stretch of road with snow and ice, or when you are informed by road signs that the use of chains is mandatory. In both cases, it is essential to pull over safely and fit the chains before proceeding. The chains should be fitted to the two driving wheels (so, if the vehicle is front-wheel drive, fit them to the front wheels). If you have two sets of chains (four chains in total), it is advisable to fit them to all four wheels for better grip and traction.
