How to Connect Battery Cables to Start a Vehicle

Connecting battery cables to charge a vehicle's battery may seem difficult and dangerous, but it is actually quite simple, and if you follow the instructions in the cable manual, you will be safe. First, position the vehicles facing each other, open both bonnets, and with both vehicles turned off, connect the clamps to the batteries. Connect the red clamp to the dead battery and then to the working battery; connect the black negative clamp to the charged battery and then to the flat battery. Start both engines and leave them to charge for 5 to 10 minutes. Disconnect the clamps in the reverse order of connection and leave the flat vehicle running for 30 minutes before driving.
