How to Reset the Steering Angle Without Diagnostic Tools

Model: (Various brands) Various
Part: Checks and maintenance

Video tutorial

Start with the steering calibration method: park on a flat and level surface and centre the steering wheel in the straight position. Turn on the ignition and fully turn the steering wheel to the left until it reaches the stop for about 5 seconds; then turn the steering wheel fully to the right and hold it for 5 seconds.

Now return it to the centre and start the engine. The second method involves calibrating the steering column.

Remove the key from the ignition and turn the ignition fully to the left: hold it in this position for 10 seconds, then turn the steering wheel to the right until it reaches the stop; return slightly (just a small movement). Insert the key and turn on the ignition: wait for 5 seconds to hear a small "click" (indicating that the reset has occurred).

Turn the steering wheel fully to the left, then fully to the right to confirm, and start the engine.

How to Activate the Disabled TRC on the Toyota Yaris?

As the video clearly shows, disabling or activating the traction control (TRC or ESP) on the Toyota Yaris is very simple. By default, the traction system activates every time the vehicle is started. To disable it, simply press the button depicting a skidding car located in the centre of the vehicle where the controls are, such as the hazard lights and the radio, but near the handbrake. Once disabled, the TRC off light will illuminate on the dashboard. To reactivate it, just press the same button again.
