How to restore a damaged steering wheel and gear lever

Let's see how we can restore the damaged steering wheel of our old car. We protect the areas that we do not need to treat with plastic sheets, then we remove the gear lever, which needs to be treated separately. First, we will clean both very well with water and neutral soap and a soft brush; be very careful that water does not come into contact with the center of the steering wheel, or with the switches, then dry everything with a microfiber cloth, very carefully. We pass fine-grit sandpaper on the damaged parts of the steering wheel and the gear knob, without applying too much force; repeat until uniform. Then apply a degreasing product, and cover the areas that do not need to be painted with body shop tape, then use a specific product, such as liquid leather, for deeper scratches, and then apply a specific paint on the entire steering wheel and gear knob, in thin layers, allowing each layer to dry well before applying the next. Once everything is dry, we put the gear knob back in place and remove the protective covers.
