In this video, you will see how to manually release an electric handbrake. In most new vehicles, the handbrake is now electronic, which brings a new set of issues, from diagnostics to maintenance: if the vehicle has all-wheel drive, even transporting it to the workshop could be a major problem: you will need to get underneath the rear of the vehicle by lifting it off the ground. The electric handbrake motors can only be repaired if they have bolts holding them to the aluminium caliper housing. If this component is not present, the brake will lose all its basic settings, and in some cases, it will be necessary to replace the calipers. When you get to remove the electromechanical motor, ensure you do not snag the wiring on the suspension components, after which you can lower the vehicle back to the ground. The control module will relearn the gap and its functions by activating the repaired handbrake several times.
