(Various brands) Various - Video tutorial
Model: (Various brands) Various
In this video, we see how to change a half shaft: it is a component that transmits torque from the differential. The arrangement and number of half shafts depend on the type of traction: front, rear, or all-wheel drive. Changing a half shaft becomes necessary if a homokinetic joint is damaged. We need to loosen the fastening element that connects the half shaft to the wheel hub, but it may also be necessary to disconnect some suspension components. The homokinetic joint may need to be removed with light hammer blows. The internal homokinetic joint can be fixed in different ways: for example, it can be fastened with bolts to the differential flange, or it can be attached to the splined shaft that protrudes from the differential. The video considers all the various options in detail for removing the internal homokinetic joint and for its installation in the new one, with the repositioning of the half shaft on the opposite side, in the wheel hub. If the transmission fluid has been drained, pour in the new one (of course, the vehicle must be in a perfectly horizontal position). Once this is done, we can remount the wheel and lower the vehicle to the ground.
