This video explains the problems that a broken dual mass flywheel can cause and the symptoms that are noticeable even to the driver. The dual mass flywheel consists of two parts, one fixed and one movable. If the movable part breaks and no longer stays in its place, the springs break, causing it to hit the fixed part, resulting in a noticeable noise. A malfunctioning flywheel damages the clutch and wears it out, creating a quantity of debris inside the flywheel, as clearly shown in the video. Another consequence is that it can unbalance the entire engine, creating very noticeable vibrations. It is evident that it is the flywheel because when the clutch is pressed, the noise of the vehicle changes, increasing and decreasing but changing significantly.
