To remove the "Component protection active" message that appears on the display of the Volkswagen Golf, connect a diagnostic tool to the vehicle's OBD port, located on the dashboard just below the steering column. Once the scanner is connected, reset the error that causes the warning light to appear on the central dashboard display.

After the error is cleared, disconnect the scanner and turn off the ignition.
