To remove the "Component protection active" message from the Volkswagen Golf display, connect a diagnostic tool to the vehicle's OBD port: this is located in the dashboard immediately below the steering column. Once the scanner is connected, you can reset the error that causes the warning light to appear on the display in the centre of the dashboard.

Once the error has been cleared, you can disconnect the scanner and turn off the instrument panel.
