How to Dismantle the Key Fob of a Golf 5

Model: Volkswagen Golf MK 5, Golf 5, Golf V - Years 2003-2008

Take the key fob of the Golf 5 and rotate the actual key outward. Now, look in the space left by the key for the screw that secures the metal key itself, and then detach it from the rest of the fob. At this point, you can open the fob into two parts along the line that runs through the smallest dimension. To do this, simply use your fingers to pry between the two halves of the key. Once opened, you will find the electronic circuits in one half and the battery housing along with the battery itself in the other half. You can then replace the battery or access the electronic circuits for any repairs.
