How to remove the steering wheel from a Volkswagen Golf 5? Follow these steps: before removing the airbag from the steering wheel, disconnect the battery terminals; insert the removal keys/screwdriver into the slots at the back of the steering wheel and unscrew the bolts until the steering wheel is free. Once the airbag is detached, disconnect its power connectors and remove them from the steering wheel. Unscrew the large central bolt (with a socket wrench) and remove the steering wheel from the column. For reassembly, insert the steering wheel onto the steering column and tighten the nut, then connect the airbag power connector and press it onto the steering wheel (tighten the fastening bolts).
