How the Volkswagen Active Protection System Works

Understand how the proactive occupant protection system works in Volkswagen vehicles. The cabin is designed to minimise the consequences of an imminent impact. The system constantly monitors for danger and analyses data from various sensors, including the ESP sensor. If the system calculates that a collision is imminent and unavoidable, it triggers a series of actions in a fraction of a second: the pre-tensioning of the seatbelts, the closing of the windows and sunroof, and the activation of the hazard lights. Then, the traditional passive safety systems, such as airbags, come into play.
