How to Replace the Air Conditioning Compressor on a Volkswagen Golf

Today, you will learn how to independently replace the air conditioning compressor on a Volkswagen Golf model 6. Open the front bonnet and disconnect the battery. Unscrew the front wheel bolts to lift the front of the vehicle. Remove the undertray and lower wing using a 25mm Torx key to unscrew the fastening screws and remove the wing. Loosen the timing belt pulley to remove it. Using a flexible hose and a socket wrench, remove the retaining rings of the hose and unscrew the bolt holding the high-pressure outlet hose. Unscrew the fastening bolt of the high-pressure inlet hose and move the hose; using a 13mm spanner, unscrew the bolt; unscrew the upper fastening bolt of the compressor and move it away from the housing to access the third bolt and disconnect the power connector. Unscrew the third bolt with an extension and a 13mm socket wrench and remove the compressor. Place the new compressor on a workbench and unscrew the drain plug of the air conditioning oil. Add the required amount of oil (50ml) for the air compressor. Pour the oil inside and using a socket wrench, unscrew the two fastening bolts of the inlet and outlet hoses. Remove the plastic covers and insert the new gaskets after oiling them, position the hose, and mount the compressor by reversing the steps.
