To reset the service warning on a Volkswagen Golf 4, work directly from the instrument cluster using the trip reset button. With the car stationary, turn the ignition on and check the display for the service indication. Press and hold the trip reset button located near the speedometer for a few seconds; while holding it, the maintenance indication updates and the service warning resets. Once you release the button, only the mileage remains on the display, and no maintenance messages appear. At this point, you can turn off and restart the Golf 4's ignition to check that the service light does not come on again and that the maintenance interval has been correctly reset.
