Replacing Timing Belt on VW Golf 6

Here’s how to replace the worn timing belts on a Volkswagen Golf 6. Release the bonnet and lift it, securing it in place. Disconnect the hoses from the coolant reservoir, then use pliers to disconnect the power wiring, and remove the plastic engine soundproofing panel. Raise the vehicle with a column lift to access the underside. Remove the wheel arch liner. Use a spanner to loosen the tensioner pulley and slide the belt off. With a socket wrench, unscrew the tensioner pulley bolt, and remove the water pump as shown in the video. Fit the new water pump, tensioner, and belt. Refit the wheel arch liner.
