Replacement of Front Shock Absorbers

Model: Volkswagen Jetta A4, MK 4 - Years 1998-2005

Lift the front of the vehicle and apply suitable axle stands; then remove the front wheels and place the jack under the support to hold it during the shock absorber removal. Open the front bonnet and unscrew the shock absorber retaining nut; proceed to remove the mounting pins of the shock absorber from the hub support and then extract it from its housing. A set of clamps is necessary to compress the spring and then extract the shock absorber: compress the spring, remove the top support, and extract the shock absorber. Then fit the new rubber gaiter to the new shock absorber, insert the still-compressed spring, then the plate and the new support rubber: finally, release the clamps to seat the spring; the new shock absorber is ready to be installed on the vehicle. Proceed in the same manner for the other shock absorber.
