How to Replace Front Shock Absorbers

Model: Volkswagen Jetta MK 3, A3 - Years 1991-1998

To replace the front shock absorbers, first remove the wheels and lift the car, adhering to all safety regulations. Disconnect the ABS cable from the supports around the shock absorber. Unscrew the brake line support. Now, unscrew the two lower bolts that secure the shock absorber to the wheel. To fully extract the spring-shock absorber assembly, unscrew the upper support bolt in the engine bay that you previously loosened. To remove the shock absorber, compress the spring with all necessary precautions. Then, remove the shock absorber, keeping track of the position of each component. Always check that the replacement part is identical to the one just removed. Insert the bump stop, dust cover, and fit the new shock absorber inside the spring, ensuring the correct position of the spring on the plate. Release the spring. Retrieve the ABS cable supports. Reinstall the spring-shock absorber assembly following the reference marks you made earlier, using the appropriate indicator applied to the wheel hub. Refit the wheel. Tighten the upper support nut.
