Checking the Engine Starting System

Regular maintenance of the vehicle ensures a long life and prevents breakdowns. The checks that every driver can perform are very simple but important. Checking the battery and the related starter motor circuit, especially during winter, is one of the most important operations for smooth starting. Start by checking the open-circuit voltage of the battery with a tester. Connect the positive and negative probes of the device to the respective battery terminals. The correct voltage should be equal to or greater than 12.8V; if not, recharge the battery. If the problem persists, it is necessary to replace it with a new one. Start the engine and check that the voltage is around 14V.
