Removing the Starter Motor on VW Jetta

Let’s look at removing the starter motor on a Volkswagen Jetta. Lift the bonnet of the car and secure it. First, use a socket wrench to disconnect the battery power cables (remove the battery). Remove the air filter housing. Unscrew the starter motor fastening bolts, disconnect the power connectors using pliers or a screwdriver depending on the pressure of the tabs. Detach the unit from its housing and take it out of the engine bay. Install the new starter motor with all connections and fastening screws.
