Instructions for Replacing the Driveshaft

Model: Volkswagen Golf Golf IV, MK 4, Golf 4 - Years 1997-2003
Part: Axle shaft

Lift the vehicle on a hydraulic lift and remove the front wheel; detach the central fastening bolt of the driveshaft from the hub; disconnect the ball joint of the suspension arm to allow the hub to move and extract the driveshaft from the wheel side. Then remove the fastening bolts of the driveshaft flange from the gearbox side and extract it. A remanufactured driveshaft, complete with boots and ready for installation, can also be purchased aftermarket. Install the new driveshaft first from the gearbox side, tighten the fastening bolts, insert it from the hub side, and tighten the central locking bolt and those of the suspension arm.
