To remove the engine from a Volkswagen Golf, open the bonnet to access the components located in the engine bay: specifically, disconnect all hoses connected to the intake and exhaust manifolds; you will also need to disconnect all connectors from the various sensors and then unscrew the bolts securing the engine to its mounts.

At this point, the engine block can be extracted from its housing, allowing for a new one to be fitted and connected.
