To replace the gear knob on a Volkswagen Polo, lever at the base of the leather gaiter that surrounds the gear lever. Once the gaiter is fully lifted, access the components underneath, specifically remove the clip that connects the knob to the gaiter. After detaching the gaiter, unscrew and remove the knob from the end of the lever. At this point, position the new knob, screw it on, and reconnect it to the gaiter using the corresponding clip.
