Locating the Legal Chassis Number (VIN) on the Volkswagen Touareg MK2

The legal chassis number (VIN) is what you must show to the DVLA during a visit and check, or to the police if stopped for a cross-check with the chassis number indicated on your registration document: you must be able to indicate where the chassis number of your vehicle is located, which is not the one indicated on the front windscreen. That plate is referred to as "courtesy" and is used by dealers for their movements before delivery to the final customer. To find the VIN of the Touareg MK2, open the rear hatch and lift the load floor: the chassis number is stamped on the part of the chassis that supports the load floor itself.
