Replacing the Rear Shock Absorber Mount

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005

If you hear a squeaking noise coming from the boot, it is possible that the rear shock absorber mount is damaged. To replace it, you need to remove the shock absorber itself. Lift the vehicle on a hydraulic lift and remove the rear wheel. Then, unscrew the lower fixing bolt of the shock absorber and apply a support jack to extract it. Proceed to the upper mount fixing bolts to remove it along with the shock absorber. Unscrew the nut that secures the mount to the shock absorber stem and remove it to fit the new one, then reverse the process for installation.
