Replacement of Front Shock Absorbers

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005

If you need to replace the front shock absorbers, it is essential to have the appropriate clamps to compress the spring. First, lift the vehicle on a ramp, remove the front wheel, and the mounting bolts of the shock absorber from the suspension arm. Then, access the engine bay, remove the plastic grille just below the windscreen, and unscrew the nuts securing the shock absorber mount to the body shell. Once the shock absorber is removed, apply the clamps to the spring and compress it enough to complete the removal of the mount from the shaft. Move the spring seating plate and bellows onto the new shock absorber, insert the spring, and reattach the mount before releasing the spring. Proceed in reverse for installation back onto the vehicle.
